The Threshold: Why I Wrote This Solar Eclipse Meditation

There are certain days that seem to arrive carrying a little more weight than others.

August 12, 2026 is one of those days.

Astronomically, a solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, temporarily blocking the Sun’s light. This particular eclipse is a total solar eclipse for parts of Europe, Greenland, Iceland, and the Arctic, while other regions, including parts of North America, will experience a partial eclipse.

Whether you view eclipses through the lens of astronomy, astrology, spirituality, or simply as beautiful reminders of nature’s rhythms, there is something undeniably symbolic about watching the light disappear… only to return again.

That symbolism has been on my heart this week.

Just one day before this eclipse, something in my own life came to an unexpected end.

While I won’t spend much time talking about the details, it was one of those moments that immediately divides life into two chapters: before and after.

As I sat with the emotions that followed, I realized something.

Life is full of thresholds.

A graduation.

A breakup.

A move.

A diagnosis.

A new baby.

The loss of someone we love.

A dream that changes.

A career that ends.

Or simply waking up one morning realizing that the person you have been… isn’t the person you’re becoming anymore.

Some thresholds are joyful.

Some are heartbreaking.

Most are a little bit of both.

What I’ve learned is that we spend so much time wanting to get through these moments as quickly as possible that we rarely allow ourselves to simply stand in the doorway.

But perhaps there is wisdom in the space between what has ended and what has not yet begun.

That space inspired this meditation.

As I reflected on my own experience, I found myself asking questions that felt much bigger than one circumstance.

What happens when we stop defining ourselves by what has ended?

How do we release something without believing we have lost ourselves?

Can an ending simply be… an ending?

Without becoming the story we tell about our worth?

Those questions slowly became The Threshold.

This isn’t a meditation about eclipses as much as it is a meditation about transitions.

It’s about honoring what was.

Releasing what is no longer ours to carry.

Remembering that our worth has never depended on another person’s acceptance, another opportunity, another title, or another chapter continuing forever.

It’s about trusting that we don’t have to see the entire path before taking the next step.

If you find yourself standing at a threshold of your own right now, whether that threshold feels exciting, uncertain, painful, or full of possibility, I hope this meditation reminds you that you don’t have to rush through it.

Sometimes the doorway itself has something to teach us.

Take a deep breath.

Find a quiet place.

And if your life is asking you to let go of something right now, I hope these next few minutes remind you of something that is easy to forget:

What ends can change your circumstances.

It never changes your worth.
